The distribution exercise was supervised by the Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. Charity Gardiner, at the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council as part of efforts to ensure the successful rollout of the initiative across the region.
The Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA), spearheaded by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, seeks to transform the agricultural sector, enhance food production, reduce hunger and poverty, and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Gardiner disclosed that more than 1,000 bags of fertiliser had been allocated to the Regional Coordinating Council for distribution to farmers throughout the Ahafo Region.
She announced that the distribution has commenced across all Municipal and District Assemblies, while a portion of the allocation assigned to her office is also being distributed to selected special groups of farmers.
The Regional Minister noted that agriculture remains the backbone of the country's economy and reiterated the Government's commitment to empowering farmers with the necessary inputs to increase productivity, improve incomes and strengthen the agricultural value chain.
She further stated that the intervention reflects the commitment of President H.E. John Dramani Mahama's administration to supporting farmers and ensuring sustainable agricultural development.
Hon. Gardiner encouraged all beneficiary farmers to make effective use of the fertilisers to increase crop yields and contribute to building a food-secure and economically vibrant Ahafo Region.
The free fertiliser distribution forms part of broader government interventions designed to modernise agriculture, improve rural livelihoods and accelerate economic transformation across the country.
