The vital water facility was funded by Republic Bank Ghana as part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility initiative aimed at improving access to potable water in underserved communities.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Akamugri described the project as a transformative intervention that goes beyond the provision of a simple water facility.

According to him, the borehole represents hope, dignity, improved public health, and enhanced livelihoods for the people of Pwalugu, stressing that access to reliable water remains fundamental to socio-economic development in the region.

The Regional Minister commended Republic Bank Ghana for investing in potable water infrastructure, noting that the project will help improve sanitation, reduce water-related diseases, and support educational activities within the community.

He further emphasized that the facility will ease the burden on women and children who often travel long distances in search of water for domestic use.

Hon. Akamugri indicated that the intervention aligns with the attainment of the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those focused on good health, clean water, and strategic partnerships for development.

He stated that sustainable development cannot be achieved by government alone and therefore requires strong collaboration among public institutions, private organizations, development partners, and local communities.

“The project is a clear demonstration of how effective public-private partnerships can positively transform lives at the grassroots level,” he stated.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister noted that the administration remains focused on expanding access to critical social infrastructure across the Upper East Region.

He stressed that water security remains a key component of the broader national development agenda, adding that meaningful socio-economic transformation cannot be achieved without reliable access to clean and safe water.

Hon. Akamugri also applauded the chiefs, opinion leaders, and residents of Pwalugu for their cooperation and communal spirit throughout the implementation of the project, emphasizing that development flourishes where there is unity, peace, and collective ownership.
