The fully-furnished edifice has various departments to complement the efforts of other divisional police headquarters in the Region to cater for the fast growing population.
An amount of GH¢748,306.69 was spent to construct the edifice.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Patrick Adusei Sarpong, Northern Regional Police Commander, whose speech was read on his behalf during the inauguration, said the population of the Metropolis outnumbered the only District Police Headquarters and three police stations in combating crime, hence the new facility.
“Therefore, there is the need to expand the scope of police operations to meet the growing demand of the growth and expansion of Tamale Metropolis in terms of security,” he said.
DCOP Sarpong said the Lamashegu Police Headquarters was a landmark in the infrastructural development of the Ghana Police Service and urged the personnel to ensure that it was maintained.
Mr Salifu Saeed, the Northern Regional Minister, urged police personnel to work with the citizenry and chiefs to ensure that the Region remained peaceful.
