Oforikrom Assembly Supports 30 Persons with Disabilities

Thirty persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the Oforikrom Municipality have received livelihood, educational and medical support from the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly.

The beneficiaries received the assistance at a ceremony held at the Assembly on July 15, 2026. The support, funded through the five per cent District Assemblies Common Fund allocation for PWDs, included deep freezers, an industrial sewing machine, a popcorn machine, wheelchairs, startup capital, educational and medical assistance, as well as information technology equipment.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Anwel Sadat Ahmed, urged the beneficiaries to use the items effectively to improve their livelihoods and become economically independent.

He assured PWDs in the municipality of the Assembly’s continued support, stating, “I will do my best to ensure that all 400 plus registered persons with disabilities in the municipality benefit from this support before I leave office.”

The Head of the Social Welfare and Community Development Department, Madam Mary Serwaa Adjen, said 17 beneficiaries received deep freezers, while others received a popcorn machine, industrial sewing machine, startup capital, medical and educational assistance, and wheelchairs.

She also disclosed that a laptop and printer were presented to the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations (GFD), Oforikrom Municipal branch.

Madam Adjen urged beneficiaries to take good care of the items and use them for their intended purposes. She added that the

Assembly would monitor the beneficiaries to ensure the support achieved its intended objectives.

The Chairman of the Disability Fund Management Committee, Hon. Issaka Ali Sambo, commended the Assembly and encouraged beneficiaries to use the support to establish sustainable sources of income.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Madam Joyce Adongo expressed appreciation to the government and the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly for the assistance.
