Daffiama Residents Urge Government to Ensure Fair Distribution of Development Projects

Chiefs and residents of Daffiama in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa (DBI) District have appealed to the government to ensure the fair distribution of development projects across communities to promote peace and social cohesion.

They expressed concern that concentrating key public infrastructure in the district capital, Issa, could marginalise other communities and create tensions.

Dr. Moses Dumayiri, Secretary of the Daffiama Men Association, Wa Branch, made the appeal during a visit by the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr Charles Lwanga Puozuing, to the Daffiama Traditional Area.

He said projects such as the District Education Office and the Director’s bungalow, which were initially earmarked for Daffiama, were reportedly being redirected to Issa.

Dr. Dumayiri urged the Regional Minister to maintain the original plan, saying fair distribution of projects would promote transparency and prevent the revival of old tensions.

The chiefs and residents also called for the establishment of a police station, improvement of major roads, rehabilitation of dams to support year-round farming, extension of electricity and water, and provision of equipment for groundnut oil extraction and shea butter processing to support women’s economic activities.

In response, Mr Puozuing assured the residents of the government’s commitment to equitable development. He pledged to work with the relevant authorities to establish a police post in Daffiama and support the upgrading of the Daffiama Health Centre into a polyclinic.

The Minister also visited the Kojokperi, Issa and Bussie Traditional Areas, where traditional leaders highlighted challenges including poor roads and inadequate educational facilities.

The MP for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa, Mr Sebastian Sandaari, urged residents to maintain peace and unity and support development efforts in the district.
