The meeting, held at the Mpobi Palace on June 24, 2026, formed part of the Assembly's commitment to strengthening community participation in local governance and ensuring that development interventions respond to the needs of residents.

Mr Augustine Amankwa, Deputy Director of the Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly, explained that the engagement was in line with the Local Governance Act, which requires Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to engage with at least four communities annually.

He said the meetings provide an opportunity for the Assembly to brief residents on ongoing and completed projects, identify community challenges, receive feedback, and discuss practical solutions to accelerate development.

Heads of departments of the Assembly also interacted with residents and outlined the services their respective departments provide.

The District Director of Education, Mr David Akomeah Asokwah, highlighted initiatives being implemented to improve teaching and learning across the district. He also encouraged parents to take an active interest in their children's education to enhance academic performance.

The District Director of Agriculture educated farmers on modern farming practices, government agricultural interventions, pest and disease control, and the adoption of improved farming technologies to increase productivity and improve livelihoods.

Residents were later given the opportunity to ask questions and raise issues affecting the community.

The Assembly Member for Mpobi cited several challenges confronting the area, including the poor condition of school infrastructure, the inadequate health centre, and the shortage of health personnel.

He also expressed concern over alleged permits granted for sand-winning activities within the community without the knowledge of residents and local authorities and called for greater transparency in such decisions.

The Assembly Member further sought clarification on social welfare assistance programmes, asking whether they were limited to persons living with disabilities or also available to individuals suffering from serious medical conditions.

He appealed to the Assembly to facilitate the installation and maintenance of streetlights to improve security and visibility within the community.

He also raised concerns about the lack of anti-snake venom at the community health facility, recounting an incident in which a child reportedly died after suffering a snake bite because the required treatment was unavailable. He appealed to the health authorities to stock the facility with anti-snake venom to prevent similar tragedies.

Other residents also highlighted inadequate educational facilities and several developmental challenges affecting the community.

The Kontihene of Mpobi expressed concern over the poor state of roads in the area, noting that the deteriorated road network continued to hamper transportation, economic activities and access to essential services.

He also appealed for support to renovate the community police station, saying the current condition of the facility undermines effective policing and public safety.

The Chief and traditional leaders of Mpobi joined the call for improvements to the road network, stressing that better roads were essential for the socio-economic development of the community.

The Chief further stated that he was prepared to release land for the establishment of a Senior High School should the government decide to construct one in the community, noting that Mpobi currently lacks such a facility.

Responding to the concerns, the Assembly assured residents that their submissions had been documented and would be considered in future planning and development interventions.
