Date Created : 6/16/2025 : Story Author : Ghanadistricts.com
In the opening remarks, the Chief Inspector of Schools, Mr. Alex Dotse-Gbogbotsi, said that reading, writing, and computing made an individual literate.
He stated that while learners were able to manipulate gadgets encountered without much difficulty, they tended to frown, sleep, or become completely quiet when asked to read.
Mr. Dotse-Gbogbotsi noted that the culture of reading was dying gradually among the current generation and emphasised the need to revive and instill it in the children.
He pleaded with parents and teachers to help develop the culture among the children through constant engagement in reading related activities.
The District Early Child Education Coordinator, Ms Cynthia Krakasu, on her part, highlighted the role of reading in an individual’s life.
She stated that in line with the Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) education policy of 2006 under the USAID EdData II project, which targeted the creation of simple, low-cost measures of literacy skills, the Kadjebi District decided to develop a strategic roadmap aimed at improving literacy proficiency among learners.
The School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) for Kadjebi East Circuit, Mr Agbesi Mensah urged all teachers to observe and take cues from the outlined activities.
He added that the contest was not about losers or winners but rather a platform to review and reflect upon their work in the schools.
Mr. Mensah commended Mr. Emmanuel Nana Nyarko Dabo, the financier and a former Akan National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant, for his ongoing support within the circuit and the district.
At the end of the Reading Festival, Kadjebi EP Primary school was adjudged the winner with 60 marks, followed by Kadjebi R.C Primary with 52 marks, Kadjebi D/A “A” Primary placed third with 43 marks, Kadjebi D/A Primary secured the fourth position with 34 marks and Awudome Kope D/A Primary came fifth with 8.5 marks.
All participants were presented with items to motivate them and inspire others to show interest in competing for their schools.
