Government Reshuffle: Local Government Minister Reassigned to Works and Housing

President John Dramani Mahama has effected a ministerial reshuffle, reassigning the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.

In a separate move, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has been moved from the Works, Housing and Water Resources portfolio to head the Ministry of Defence.

The changes were announced on Friday, August 7, 2026 by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President’s Spokesperson and Minister of Government Communications.

In accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, the President has also submitted the names of two new ministerial nominees to Parliament for prior approval.

The nominees, forwarded through the Speaker of Parliament, are:

1. Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings – Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology

2. Mahama Ayariga – Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs

Parliament is expected to begin the vetting process for the new nominees in the coming days.
