Non-Governmental Organizations

Non-Governmental Organization are a group of individuals or social organizations which pull resources together for development. The district can boost of four local NGOs and nine Community Based Organizations (CBOs) operating in HIV/AIDS and other development programmes.

The NGOs available are Resource Link Foundation (RLF), Social Development and Improvement Agency (SODIA) in collaboration with Action Aid Ghana, Brong Ahafo Women Development Foundation (BAWDF), and Islamic Exposition Centre. The CBOs operating in the district include Badu Fight Against AIDS, Menji Mmoa Kuo, Abotare ye Womens Group, Life Saving HIV/AIDS Club, Girl Child Development Foundation, Youth Empowerment Training Centre (YETC) and Human Resource and Community Service.

The NGOs have helded tremendously in the development of the district. Resource Link Foundation has successfully been able to control female genital mutilation and widowhood rite in some part of Banda Traditional Area. It has also trained unemployed youth in grass cutter rearing and bee keeping which generate employment in the district.

Brong Ahafo Women Foundation on the other hand provides treatment, care and support services to PLWHA in the district. They work in collaboration with the Wenchi Methodist Hospital where they register those who test positive of the virus.

Social Development and Improvement Agency has been able to identify the problems, constraints and challenges confronting quality education delivery and farmers in the district. Sensitization exercises have gone to communities on the spread of HIV/AIDS, the use of condom and training of peer educators in Menji, Brohani and Bofie, all in the Tain District. There have also been peace building programmes for chiefs and their elders in the district

The organizations identified here are all into HIV/AIDS. Some have gotten the chance to source funds from the Ghana Aids Commission through MSHAP to organize HIV/AIDS programmes in the district by the end of the year.
