SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE

 Service Sector

The service sector provides services to the other sectors of the municipal economy. There are a number of services provided in the municipality this ranges from high order services to low order services. The services that are provided in this sector are in the various categories: FINANCIAL, TEACHERS ETC.

Transportation

As indicated in the surface accessibility, the connected by roads (1st class, 2nd class, 3rd class roads and footpaths). These roads link various communities and other towns together. However, the roads and footpaths in the interior of the municipality are in a deplorable situation and this affects socio-economic activities of the municipality and the nation at large. If the road network is improved, there would always be alternative routes to Accra and other places and would reduce the traffic on the Weija Kasoa road so that hardworking Ghanaians can have value for their time.

Tele-Communication

Telephone services have long been existing in the municipality. All the mobile telecommunication networks in the country (MTN, Zain, Kasapa and Tigo) equally operate in this municipality. The telecommunication status of the municipality is of a higher order in Ghanaian standards. This means that businesses, industries and offices among others can utilize these services for the growth of the municipal economy and to the mainstream of national development.

Insurance

There are several insurance companies already located in the Municipality whiles more are underway. Branches of Metropolitan Insurance, Star Assurance, Donewell, Quality Insurance Company, and Enterprise Insurance are currently concentrated at GICEL. There has been an upsurge in the number as well as turnover in these facilities due to the consistent increase in industrial and estate development activities in the Municipality.

Meanwhile, some people operate with insurance companies in Accra because of its proximity and the ease of accessing such companies.

Commerce

Commercial activities are carried out in the municipality by the youth and this has generated employment as the retail trade has paved way for those with little capital to also be in business.

Economic Infrastructure

Economic infrastructure comprises facilities that help in the production process. These include transportation network, post and telecommunications, financial institutions and market structures. As mentioned elsewhere all of these facilities but postal services infrastructure can be found in this municipality. These infrastructures have potentials and constraints for the development of the municipality. However, the Assembly is trying hard to harness our strengths and opportunities to the mainstream of the municipal and national development.

(ICT).

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is one of the critical tools for efficiency and productivity in the 21st Century. The Assembly has adopted ICT in in the execution of its day to day administration. All Departments have at least two, computers or laptops for official assignments.
