“Passing Isn’t About Sandals, It’s About Wisdom” - MP to BECE Candidates

“Do what is needful, and it’s not by providing you with sandals or footwear,” the MP said during a visit to encourage Junior High School (JHS) 3 pupils ahead of their exams. “It’s by me coming here to encourage you and to advise you.”

Shaib pointed to his own journey as proof that physical stature does not determine success.

“You see my body size, I’m not big enough. But by God’s grace, I find myself as your humble representative in Parliament. And not just that, but I’m also in leadership,” he said.

“So it tells you that learning and studying to make your parents proud, to make your teachers proud, and most importantly to make yourselves proud, is very important. Wherever you find yourself, it is not your strength. It is not because you are a macho man or a macho girl. It’s because of the wisdom you have here and how well you are going to apply that wisdom.”

‘Go show the world your class’
The MP also commended teachers for their dedication across the JHS cycle.

“Your teachers have done their part. They have taken you through the term. From JHS One, JHS Two, JHS Three, they have prepared you. You are also very well prepared,” he said.

“It is time for you now to go and show the world the class of people you are. I know you are an excellent group of people. I know you are very prepared to show the world that when you come to [this community], we have the smartest of children. We have the most intelligent group of people. And you are going to show them that you have the best of grades waiting for you.”
He ended with a direct charge to the candidates: “Is that the case? Are we all going to pass?”
