The support programme, held at Faase Gardens, formed part of the Assembly’s efforts to promote social inclusion, economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods for Persons with Disabilities in the Municipality.
The programme was attended by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alfred Nii Anyetei; Member of Parliament for the La Dade-Kotopon Constituency, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah; Municipal Coordinating Director, Siegfried Kwame Addo; Heads of Departments; staff of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development; and other stakeholders.
Of the 66 beneficiaries, 33 were males and 33 were females, representing equal participation in the programme..jpg)
A total of 50 beneficiaries received cash support amounting to GH¢227,347, while 16 beneficiaries were presented with livelihood items valued at GH¢125,760. The assistance was based on the assessed needs of beneficiaries and was intended to help them establish or expand income-generating activities and improve their economic well-being.
The items presented included nine freezers, one display fridge, one laptop, one overlock sewing machine, two knitting machines, one set of ovens and one electric motor for a grinding machine.
The items are expected to support beneficiaries engaged in various economic activities, including trading, food and beverage production, tailoring and dressmaking, knitting, baking and other small-scale businesses.
The intervention is aimed at providing productive assets that can generate sustainable income and promote long-term economic independence rather than offering only short-term relief.
Officials at the programme encouraged beneficiaries to use the cash and items responsibly and strictly for their intended purposes. They were also urged to take proper care of the equipment and ensure that the support contributes meaningfully to improving their livelihoods.
Beneficiaries were further encouraged to maintain contact with the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development for guidance, monitoring and continued support to ensure the effective use of the assistance.
