The support was distributed by the Social Welfare and Community Development Department of the Assembly during a ceremony held at the forecourt of the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Eric Asibey, explained that the items were procured from the Assembly’s allocation of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

He noted that the law provides for three percent of quarterly releases of the Common Fund to be allocated to the welfare of Persons with Disabilities, demonstrating government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and promoting their inclusion in national development.
Hon. Asibey disclosed that the items were selected based on individual requests submitted by the beneficiaries to address their specific needs and livelihood aspirations.
Among the items distributed were deep freezers, industrial sewing machines, washing bay machines, leather and shoe-making machines, wood-carving machines, fufu machines, laptops, phone accessories, second-hand clothing and various working tools.
Some beneficiaries also received cash support to settle medical bills, providing additional assistance to those facing healthcare-related financial challenges.
The MCE urged beneficiaries to make productive use of the items and cautioned them against selling the equipment. He said monitoring teams would periodically visit beneficiaries to assess how the items were being utilised.
President of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations, Kwadaso Branch, Mr. John Nicholas Mensah, commended the government and the Assembly for the intervention, describing the support as an important step towards improving the welfare and economic independence of PWDs.
The beneficiaries also expressed appreciation to the government and the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly for the assistance.
The intervention is expected to enable beneficiaries to establish or expand small businesses, develop sustainable sources of income and improve their living conditions, while promoting greater participation of Persons with Disabilities in the local economy.
The initiative reinforces the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly’s commitment to social inclusion, economic empowerment and improved welfare for Persons with Disabilities within the municipality.
