Ahafo Minister lauds GHS, urges them to do more in dealing with infectious diseases

The Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) has commended staff, leadership and management of the health system in the region for their tremendous professionalism in the development of a resilient health sector to address the health needs of residents in the area.

The ARCC has therefore pledged its readiness and willingness to collaborate with the Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to research infectious and communicable diseases to enable them to find solutions to reduce its impact on the country's human needs as well as its spread.

These disclosures were made on behalf of the Regional Minister, George Boakye by the Chief Director of the ARCC, Mr. Samuel Amoako Kwarteng at the 2022 Annual Performance Review Meeting of the Ahafo Regional Directorate of the GHS in Goaso.

It was on theme "Building Resilient Health System Networks to Achieve Universal Health Coverage; Role of Stakeholders and Health Managers" and attended by members of the various district health directorates in the region, partners and stakeholders in the health sector, traditional authorities, heads of department and a section of the general public. 


The Chief Director said the government was committed to improving the health needs of people in the region by investing in health infrastructure such as the agenda 111 hospitals in Kenyasi and Kukuom, diseases and infections treatment centres in Kenyasi and many others in the region.

He commended the GHS in the region for their sacrifice, efforts and professionalism in the fight and management of COVID-19, Measles, HIV/AIDS and many other communicable diseases. 

Mr. Amoako Kwarteng therefore, called on partners and all stakeholders to partner his outfit to fashion out policies, programmes and initiatives to better the wellbeing of Ghanaians.

The Regional Director of Health Services, Ahafo Region, Dr, Samuel Kwabena Boakye-Boateng, giving an account of their stewardship noted that despite challenges such as inadequate human personnel, inadequate finance, inadequate logistics, inadequate medical supplies and many more, the region under his team has chalked significant gains.

He mentioned the region recorded a significant improvement in mortality ratio of 52 live births per 100,000 births, family planning acceptability rate of 49 percent as against the target of 40 percent, recorded zero infant malaria cases and improved cases of tuberculosis to 54 per 100,000 cases.

He opined with leadership and collaboration his outfit was in the position to make the region the best in Health care delivery in the country. There were solidarity messages from the Director General of GHS, the Council, partners and stakeholders.
