From colourful cultural festivals and vibrant traditional dances to beach resorts, hotels, and hospitality centres, the district is quietly positioning itself as an emerging tourism hub in the Central Region.
Authorities in the Metropolis believe tourism could become one of the strongest drivers of economic growth, job creation, and local investment if the available opportunities are strategically packaged and promoted.
One of the district’s biggest cultural attractions is the famous Akwambo Festival, celebrated by the Gomoa people. The festival is deeply rooted in the history and traditions of the people and attracts natives, visitors, and cultural enthusiasts from different parts of the country.
The celebration showcases rich Ghanaian culture through traditional drumming, dancing, colourful processions, chieftaincy displays, and community gatherings that reflect the identity and heritage of the Gomoa people.
Another cultural event gradually gaining attention is the Ahobaakese Festival and the energetic “Atopa Dance Festival,” celebrated in parts of the district, usually in August every year.
These festivals present huge opportunities for cultural tourism, entertainment, and community-based economic activities if properly promoted on national and international tourism platforms.

Beyond culture, Gomoa East also boasts a growing hospitality industry with several hotels, guest houses, restaurants, and beach resorts spread across the district.
Some hospitality facilities are strategically located along the coast, offering visitors scenic beach experiences, while others are positioned within the heart of the district to serve business travelers and tourists.
Among some of the notable hospitality facilities in the district are White Sand Beach Resort, Tills Hotel, and the Pentecost Convention Centre, which continue to attract guests for conferences, retreats, recreation, and events.
Tourism stakeholders say the combination of beaches, festivals, hospitality infrastructure, and easy accessibility gives Gomoa East a competitive advantage in the tourism sector.
However, much of the district’s tourism potential remains largely underdeveloped due to limited investment, inadequate promotion, and insufficient tourism infrastructure.
District authorities have therefore expressed readiness to partner with strategic investors and private sector players to unlock the full potential of the tourism industry.
Experts believe that with the right investment in roads, branding, event promotion, eco-tourism, and hospitality infrastructure, Gomoa East could become one of the fastest-growing tourism destinations in Ghana.
For many residents, tourism is not just about entertainment — it represents jobs, local business growth, cultural preservation, and new economic opportunities for the youth.
As Ghana continues to promote domestic tourism, Gomoa East may well be sitting on a hidden goldmine ready to be discovered.
