The support was provided under the Persons with Disabilities allocation of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), following the government's decision to increase the allocation from three to five per cent.

Speaking during the presentation at Mpohor, the District Chief Executive, Madam Sophia Aubyn, said the Assembly was committed to ensuring that resources allocated to the PWD Fund were used for their intended purpose and reached persons who needed the support. She explained that the intervention formed part of the Assembly's efforts to promote social inclusion and ensure that persons with disabilities were actively included in the district's development agenda.

Madam Aubyn urged beneficiaries to use the cash and items wisely to establish or expand their livelihoods. She cautioned them against selling the items for immediate financial gain, stressing the need to make the support beneficial in the long term.

The Member of Parliament for Mpohor-Fiase, Mr Kofi Bentil, reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving the welfare and living conditions of persons with disabilities. He said the increase in the DACF allocation from three to five per cent demonstrated government's determination to strengthen social protection and provide greater support to vulnerable groups.

Mr Bentil commended the Assembly's Department of Social Welfare and Community Development for identifying persons with genuine and pressing needs to benefit from the programme.

The President of the Federation of Persons with Disabilities in the Mpohor-Fiase District, Mr Kwesi Debra, expressed appreciation to the government and the Assembly for the intervention. He encouraged beneficiaries to use the support responsibly to improve their livelihoods, expand their economic activities and work towards greater financial self-reliance.

The initiative is expected to contribute to poverty reduction, inclusive development and improved livelihoods among Persons with Disabilities in the district.
