The ceremony, held on Friday, May 15, 2026, marked the official commencement of one of the district’s major economic transformation projects aimed at boosting local trade, job creation, and internally generated revenue.

During the event, the project site was formally handed over to the contractor with all necessary documentation presented to begin construction works immediately.

The ultra-modern market is expected to feature 32 lockable stalls, 120 open shops, cold storage facilities, loading bays, parking spaces, a daycare centre, as well as police and fire service posts to ensure safety and smooth operations.

According to officials, the facility is designed to operate on a 24-hour basis, moving beyond the traditional 8am to 5pm market system to support continuous trading and economic activities within the district.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Kate Mawusi Babanawo expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the scheduled 18-month timeline and significantly improve the district’s revenue mobilisation and economic development.

She further praised the government’s commitment to implementing the 24-Hour Economy policy championed by President John Dramani Mahama, describing the project as a fulfillment of a major campaign promise made during the 2024 general elections.

The event attracted several dignitaries, including the District Coordinating Director, Finance Officer, Presiding Member, Assembly Members, heads of security agencies, education and NHIS directors, NDC constituency executives, chiefs, elders, market women representatives, and the Member of Parliament for the area.

Residents and stakeholders welcomed the initiative and expressed optimism that the market project would transform Kwahu Afram Plains North into a vibrant commercial hub and create sustainable opportunities for traders and entrepreneurs.
