The items, valued about GH¢153,000.00, included 40 pieces of non-contact infrared thermometre guns, 650 pieces of surgical gowns and 10,000 pieces of disposable medical face masks.

The rest were five pieces each of oxygen flow metres, pulse oximetres, several pieces of white bedsheets, 124 pieces of oxygen masks and nasal cannulas for adults and children.

The donation was part of  Mr. Agalga’s commitment to improve quality healthcare delivery in the Constituency.

Addressing the management and staff of the hospital after the presentation, Mr. Agalga said the items were contributions from friends and not from government, noting that government alone could not shoulder the needs of all citizens.

The MP, in the company of Mr. Solomon Ansoabayie Akogti, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area and some National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency executives, toured the hospital to abreast himself with state of the facility.

He said the Constituents deserved quality healthcare service with modern medical equipment and called on the citizens within and outside the Constituency to support improve the state of the hospital.

Mr. Agalga, who is the Chairman of Parliament’s Defense and Interior Committee, acknowledged that despite the deplorable state of the hospital, coupled with obsolete equipment, staff continued to sacrifice to save lives.

He commented the staff for their hard work, saying “You are doing your best under the circumstances of very few little resources.”

Dr Edwin Saanwie, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, who received the items, thanked the MP for the gesture, and said the items would be put to good use to improve healthcare delivery in the area, and called for more support for the facility.

Mr. Cabral Vwawojei Bantiu, the Builsa North Municipal Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), noted that even though the facility had committed staff to deliver quality healthcare to residents, its deplorable environment could expose staff and patients to infections.

“Whilst we thank you, we are still going to extend our hands to say that we really need your support. It is so disheartening for our hospital to be graded as the worst performing hospital in the whole country. That alone is something that dampens our spirit.

“But I think if the staff are committed, the only thing we need to do as people of Buluk together with our MP and MCE, is to support our committed staff to be able to provide quality healthcare service,” he said.

Mr. Bantiu said, “If you look at the reimbursement that comes from the National Health Insurance, it is not something that is worth meeting demands of the hospital with a very huge bill on the neck of the hospital. So, we want to see recurrent things coming,” the Director said.

He assured the MP that the items would be used for the intended purpose and further commended him for his contribution to healthcare delivery in the area.

“I must say that he has been supportive not only to this hospital, but across the length and breadth of the Municipality, and that indicates that quality of care is part of his main objectives,” Mr. Bantiu said.
