Announced by the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Kalamu Musah Adamu, the systematic exercise moves beyond mere aesthetics to address core safety concerns. The primary goal, officials state, is to eliminate overgrown vegetation that has been obscuring drivers’ sightlines and posing a potential hazard.

“This work reflects our commitment to creating safer, more orderly, and visually appealing communities for all residents and road users,” Mr. Adamu said.

The Assembly outlines several key benefits of the project:

· Improved Driver Visibility: Clearing the median vegetation ensures unobstructed sightlines for motorists, a fundamental step in reducing accident risks.

· Promotion of Road Safety: With visual blockages removed, drivers can better navigate lanes and see crucial road signs and signals.

· Enhanced Urban Beauty: A well-maintained median contributes to a cleaner and more welcoming cityscape for residents and visitors.

· Hazard Prevention: The clearing operation will reduce hiding spots for accumulated litter and help deter rodents from inhabiting the highway corridor.

The N1 Highway is a vital arterial road, carrying significant daily traffic. The Assembly’s proactive maintenance of this infrastructure has been commended by local leaders as an essential service. The initiative underscores a growing emphasis on preemptive measures to ensure road user safety while simultaneously improving the local environment.

Work is currently underway, with motorists advised to exercise caution in the active construction zones along the median.
