It took place at Cyanide, Kwabedu, and New Atuabo. The residents cleared gutters, weeded bushy places, and collected refuse, which were carried away for disposal by waste management trucks.

The exercise, which started at 5:00 am was supported by the Ghana Police Service (GPS), the Ghana National Fire Service GNFS), and sanitation staff of the assembly.

Officers from the GNFS provided water from their fire thunder to flush out severely choked drains at Cyanide junction and other areas.

Mr. Alex Damtey, Municipal Environmental Health Officer, said that they decided to merge three communities because of the turnout.

He said when they planned to hold clean-up in Tarkwa, they didn't get the desired outcome, so, this time, they chose to focus on fewer communities for effective monitoring and participation.

"At the end of the day, it was better to see a good work done than making it a free-for-all, where people think that, if you are not here, you are over there" Mr. Damtey noted

According to him, the clean-up was within specific communities; they had meetings with the chiefs and assembly members to ensure everyone participated.

He added that these stakeholders knew each other in their respective communities, so those who did not attend, could be easily identified and punished to serve as a deterrent.

Mr. Damtey stressed that the turnout for this month's clean-up looked promising because they started sensitisation a week ago, and as early as 5:00 am people were already out with their tools to work.

Mr. Dominic Barnes, Assembly member for Cyanide Electoral Area, commended residents in the three communities for active participation in the clean-up.

He appealed to Cyanide residents not to dump in drains, saying it tarnished the community's image.
