The Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District is recording impressive gains in teacher quality within its public schools, but challenges persist in the private education sector due to a high number of untrained teachers.

Data from the District shows that out of 683 teachers employed in public schools, a remarkable 664 are professionally trained—representing 97.9 percent—while only 19 teachers, or 2.9 percent, are untrained. This highlights a strong commitment to quality education delivery in the public sector.

However, the situation is markedly different in private schools across the district. Out of a total of 50 teachers, only 32 are trained, representing 64 percent, while a significant 36 percent—18 teachers—remain untrained.

Education stakeholders have expressed concern over the disparity, noting that the high proportion of untrained teachers in private schools could affect the overall quality of education if not addressed.

The figures underscore the need for targeted interventions, including teacher training and capacity-building programmes, particularly within the private sector, to ensure consistent standards across all schools.

The District Assembly is expected to collaborate with relevant education authorities to bridge the gap and promote quality teaching and learning across both public and private institutions.
