A short but colorful ceremony took place at the project site, where the market’s architectural drawings were first transferred from consultant Nicolas Agbetto to District Chief Executive (DCE) Wilfred Zuuri. The DCE then handed the documents to contractor Samuel Fokuo, along with the site possession certificate—confirming the land is litigation-free and legally acquired.

Speaking at the event, DCE Zuuri underscored the project’s significance for the people of Kintampo South. He praised President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of introducing flagship programs, including the 24-hour economy market initiative, to create jobs for the nation’s youth and stabilize economic conditions for Ghanaians in rural areas.

“The people of Kintampo South are seriously in need of this very important project to support their economic standard of living,”
Mr. Zuuri said. He pledged his full support to the contractor
urged that the 30-month timeline be treated as a maximum not a targetappealing for early completion.

On behalf of the DCE, Mr. Maxwell Ampim Bortsie, head of the district’s works department, made a direct appeal to the contractor to prioritize local youth for unskilled labor positions.

“There are a lot of unemployed youth in the district who have completed technical institutions looking for jobs,” he noted.

Project consultant Mr. Nicolas Agbetto echoed calls for local hiring and adherence to the schedule, advising the contractor against bringing in unskilled labor from Accra when local youth stand to benefit. “The government knows his capabilities that is why he was awarded the contract,” Mr. Agbetto said, emphasizing the need to work within the agreed timeframe.

Once completed, the market is expected to create jobs, boost local business activity, promote trade, and contribute significantly to the development of the Kintampo South District.
