WA: Former MCE calls for demolishing of fuel station on Gov’t land

A former MCE for Wa Central, Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha who doubles as former regional organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has voiced out his concerns regarding the controversial sale of a Government land belonging to Parks and Gardens, located in the heart of the Wa Municipality.

The land was reportedly sold to Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister of Environment Science and National Resources and is currently being used to establish a fuel station.

STATEMENT

Parks and Gardens Land in Wa, UWR.
I wish to add my voice to commending the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Martin Adjei Mensah-Korsah who clearly disagrees with the Lands and Natural Resources Minister by his assurance to Parliament on July 4, 2024 when he responded to an urgent questions that he will take active steps to reclaim the land and demolish the illegal fuel station under construction on the Wa Parks and Gardens land.
I also want to state that the said filling is not completed and cannot therefore serve the needs of the residents, as indicated the statement issued by Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, as attached here.
Equally worthy of commendation is the action of the current Regional Minister of the UWR, Hon. Stephen Yakubu, for his efforts in seeking answers from the Lands Commission on this subject matter
However, the approach employed by the Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, is condemnable. The Wa Municipal Assembly temporary settling small ruminants meat sellers at a corner while a permanent abattoir is being sought for a new market, should not be a yardstick for it to be rezoned and sold to a private developer in 2020.
In sum, I wish to join the numerous calls for that illegal fuel station under construction to be demolished, and the land reverted to the Department of Parks and Gardens, UWR.
