Military to hold match and shooting competition in Sunyani on 22nd August

The Military Central Command at the 3 Infantry Battalion (3BN) of the Liberation Barracks in Sunyani is set to hold matching and shooting competition scheduled to take place on 22nd August, 2025 at Yawhima Military range a suburb of Sunyani in the Bono Region.

The aim of the competition is to test the physical fitness, mental endurance; Esprit de corps that is, builds cohesion, unity and promote professional culture.

This competition also aims to improve marksmanship and potential among troops as it facilitates joint training, providing opportunities for personnel to acquaint themselves with the workings, processes, and procedures of other services.

The Commanding Officer of the 3BN Lt Col Michael Naah said the competition is between the military under Central Command and the units include 3rd Infantry Battalion, 4th Infantry Battalion, 154 Armour Regiment and the Head Quarters Central Command Camp in Kumasi.

He noted that the competition will start at the 3BN square, where the various teams will be set up for long walk and eventually end up with crossing of military obstacles.

The Commanding Officer said the completion was in three (3) phases and include long walk of about 20km, obstacle crossing and shooting at the Yawhima Military shooting range.

He observed that these competitions and training exercises are organized to enhance combat readiness, validate marksmanship skills, and foster cooperation among military personnel.

The guest of honour for the competition is the Bono Regional Minister Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa Esq.

The preparation towards the exercise is already attracting audience ahead of the drills the public usual expects from military exercises of this nature.
