The relocation of the Zongo new market-NJSM
A durbar was organised to mark the relocation of the Koforidua Zongo Marketfrom its old site to a temporary location on the 24 th May,2024.

The move was necessitated to facilitate the construction of a new and improved market facility at the previous site.
The primary purpose of the programme was to offer prayers and officially open the new temporary market and hand over the new market to the traders.
This event was not only a communal gathering but also a significant administrative milestone in the market development process.
The programme saw the attendance of several key figures and stakeholders, including the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Appaw-Gyasi, the presiding member, Hon. Nana Yaw Debrah, the Eastern Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Hamdani Yussif, the market women from the Zongo market, and other Zongo Chiefs.
The programme commenced with prayers led by the chief Imams of Zongo. The prayers were intended to seek blessings and success for the new market site and the ongoing construction at the old site.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Isaac Appaw Gyasi addressed the attendees of the gathering emphasizing the temporary nature of the relocation and reassuring the market women and other traders that, within six months, the redevelopment of the Zongo Market would be completed.
MCE highlighted and assured that all individuals who registered during the data collection phase would be given their designated places when the market is completed.
The Municipal Chief Executive reiterated the commitment to the timeline of six months for the completion of the new market.
The temporary market was officially declared open, and was a significant moment for the market women and traders as it marked the beginning of their operations at the new site.
