He said this will help remove the ‘hotspot’ status associated with the constituency during elections.
Mr. Tampugre made the call during an engagement with about 50 political party youth activists in Atebubu as part of the European Union sponsored Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism initiative in Atebubu.
He said the engagement aims to improve the knowledge and attitudes of the youth on the culture of peaceful coexistence, tolerance and non-violence to help combat violent extremism
and terrorism during the December elections.
The interaction focused on: the role of the youth in promoting peace, peaceful coexistence and inter-faith tolerance as well as identifying misinformation and disinformation.
It also looked at the Commission’s theme for the year ‘together we can build Ghana, so get involved’ which is hinged on: vote buying, fake news, religious and ethnic tolerance as well as electoral violence.
The municipal crime officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Thomas Prempeh Mercer reminded participants of the anti-vigilantism law which could hand offenders a minimum jail term of ten years.
He also admonished them to desist from sharing unverified information especially on social media which could potentially land them in trouble.
Some of the youth activists, while expressing their gratitude to the Commission for the opportunity, resolved to take the message of peace to their followers to ensure violence-free elections in the constituency in December.
Political parties represented at the engagement included the New Patriotic Party, the National Democratic Congress, the Progressive Peoples Party, the Peoples National Convention, the Ghana Union Movement and the Convention People's Party.
