New Juaben South MCE Reports GHC 1.25 Million Revenue, Resolved Transport Union Dispute

The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly held its First Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Third Assembly on Thursday, May 14, 2026, with Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Ransford Owusu Boakye delivering a wide-ranging sessional address on development progress, revenue performance, and key government interventions.

The meeting, held in Koforidua, brought together the Presiding Member, Assembly Members, traditional authorities, civil society representatives, heads of departments, and media stakeholders.

The MCE disclosed that the Assembly generated GHC 1,252,061.90 in internal revenue as of the end of March 2026 – representing 17 percent of the annual target of GHC 7,566,207.60. He acknowledged the need for intensified collection efforts through improved monitoring systems and technology deployment.

In a significant security achievement, Owusu-Boakye announced the successful resolution of the long-standing dispute between two PROTOA factions – now identified as Peace PROTOA and Adom PROTOA. Following extensive engagements involving the Municipal Security Committee (MUSEC), both groups agreed to operate peacefully at the Accra Station loading area on a one-to-one basis. Normalcy has been restored with adequate security measures in place.

The MCE announced the successful completion of the Zongo Market stores, Police Post, and Lorry Park, with additional sheds constructed for traders. A sod-cutting ceremony for the proposed 24-Hour Economy Market at Agatha Market is expected to boost economic productivity and create employment opportunities.

The Assembly has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a private investor under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement to develop the municipal cemetery.

Residents of the Municipality will benefit from the Government's Free Primary Healthcare Programme, covering blood pressure checks, blood sugar screening, maternal healthcare, family planning, mental health screening, and cervical cancer awareness services.

Under the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP), beneficiaries have received vocational training in carpentry, hairdressing, and masonry, along with monthly stipends and start-up equipment. The "Nkok? Nkitinkiti" initiative has provided approximately 80 farmers with 4,000 birds to support local poultry production.

The Assembly currently has 196 mechanized staff (92 males, 104 females) and 103 casual workers (66 males, 37 females). Key departmental heads, including the Municipal Works Engineer and Internal Auditor, have been transferred and replaced, with a substantive Estate Manager now posted.

Owusu-Boakye commended the Assembly for moving from 9th position in 2021 to 4th position in 2022 on the District League Table, attributing the improvement to collective efforts toward better service delivery.

The MCE reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to prudent resource management, transparency, and strategic planning aimed at improving living conditions for all residents of New Juaben South Municipality.
