The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Samuel Adongo, has reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to finding lasting solutions to the recurring floods that affect several communities, particularly during the rainy season.
Speaking on Bryt FM's Adekyee Mu Nsem programme, Hon. Adongo identified flooding as one of the municipality's most pressing challenges, noting that the phenomenon continues to impact homes, businesses and road networks whenever heavy rains occur.
According to the MCE, the flooding situation is largely driven by inadequate drainage systems, unauthorized developments on waterways and the indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drains.
To mitigate the problem, he disclosed that the Assembly has intensified desilting operations across flood-prone areas, strengthened monitoring and enforcement of planning regulations, and stepped up public sensitization campaigns on environmental cleanliness.
Hon. Adongo further revealed that the Assembly is working closely with relevant stakeholders to implement sustainable interventions, including the rehabilitation and expansion of drainage infrastructure in vulnerable communities.
He stressed that effective flood management requires the collective efforts of residents, urging the public to desist from dumping waste into drains and avoid activities that obstruct the free flow of stormwater.
"The fight against flooding is a shared responsibility. We must all work together to keep our environment clean and ensure that drains remain free from waste," he emphasized.
The MCE assured residents that the Assembly remains focused on protecting lives and property through proactive measures aimed at reducing the impact of flooding and improving environmental resilience across the municipality.
The renewed commitment forms part of broader efforts by the New Juaben North Municipal Assembly to enhance public safety, improve sanitation and build more resilient communities in the face of increasing climate-related challenges.
