The projects, which are aimed at improving access to basic social amenities, include four mechanised boreholes constructed at Awonakrom, Bediem, Kulem, and the Railways enclave. The other two projects are an eight-seater washroom facility and the refurbishment of a kindergarten block for the Bediem Experimental Basic School.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Appiah Kannin urged residents and beneficiaries to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper maintenance to guarantee long-term sustainability.
She expressed concern about the poor maintenance culture often associated with public projects and stressed the need for communities to protect and maintain facilities provided for their benefit.
“These projects are meant to serve you for a long time. It is your responsibility to ensure they are properly maintained and used for their intended purpose,” she said.
The MCE attributed the projects to government support and commended President John Dramani Mahama and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, for their leadership and commitment to improving infrastructure at the local level.
The Municipal Education Director, Mr. Alfred George Koomson, expressed appreciation to the Assembly for the investment in education infrastructure and appealed to teachers and pupils to ensure the facilities are well maintained.
A resident who spoke at the event welcomed the provision of the boreholes, describing the intervention as timely, particularly in communities affected by water challenges.
“Water is life, and this project will go a long way to improve the lives of residents,” the resident said.
The two-day commissioning exercise was attended by the Presiding Member, Hon. David Odoom, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mrs. Joyce Akosua Angmorteh, assembly officials, traditional leaders, and community members.
