Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the District President of PWDs, Mr. Emmanuel Balelamu, described Hon. Saaka as a compassionate and people-centred leader who has demonstrated genuine concern for the welfare of persons with disabilities.

He particularly commended the DCE for decentralising the PWD support programme, enabling people living in remote and hard-to-reach communities to access assistance without travelling long distances.

Mr. Emmanuel also thanked Hon. Saaka for directing the Department of Social Welfare to take its services closer to the people, describing the initiative as a significant step towards ensuring that vulnerable persons are not left behind.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Hon. Sinkinaa Saaka reaffirmed his belief that disability should never prevent anyone from contributing meaningfully to society or becoming economically independent.

He urged the beneficiaries to make productive use of the items and financial assistance provided, stressing that the support was intended to create sustainable livelihoods and improve their quality of life.

The DCE cautioned beneficiaries against selling the items received and encouraged them to use the support as a foundation to establish or expand their businesses.

He further appealed to PWDs who had not yet benefited from the programme to register with the Social Welfare Officer to enable them to be considered in subsequent phases.

The intervention provided beneficiaries with equipment and financial assistance to support entrepreneurship, skills development, mobility and income generation.

The items distributed included:

12 deep freezers

1 Motor King

1 motor tricycle (Yellow Yellow/Cambuu)

3 laptops

6 sewing machines

6 special tricycles for mobility

1 bread-baking oven

1 weaving machine

Cash support for 165 beneficiaries

In all, GH¢624,740.00 was disbursed to 165 beneficiaries, with individual beneficiaries receiving between GH¢2,000 and GH¢4,000.

The intervention represents a practical commitment by the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Assembly to inclusive development and economic empowerment, particularly for persons who may face additional barriers to earning a sustainable livelihood.

Many of the beneficiaries, the support is more than just equipment or financial assistance. It offers an opportunity to work, earn an income, become more self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.

The initiative therefore reinforces the message that disability is not inability, and that with the right opportunities and support, persons with disabilities can build productive and independent lives.
