In a significant stakeholder engagement on Wednesday, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Raphael Uriel Nartey, together with a high-powered management delegation, paid a courtesy call on the Prampram Traditional Council to officially brief them on government’s readiness to commence the ambitious market project.
The meeting, held in the presence of the Paramount Chief, Nene Tetteh Waka III, focused on the project’s scope, site location, technical details and implementation timeline. The DCE also sought the support and cooperation of the Traditional Authority to ensure smooth execution of the initiative in line with customary and administrative procedures.
Hon. Raphael Uriel Nartey disclosed that the contractor is expected on site soon and appealed to current occupants of the proposed market land — including station drivers and traders — to begin preparations to relocate their activities to pave way for construction works.
According to the DCE, the proposed 24-hour market is expected to inject fresh economic energy into Prampram, create jobs, expand trading opportunities and position the township as a growing commercial hub within the district.
The Assembly’s delegation included the Coordinating Director, Madam Vida Awuku, the District Works Engineer, District Physical Planning Officer, District Development Planner and other technical officers.
Also present at the engagement were key stakeholder groups such as the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) Prampram Branch, the Prampram Market Women Association and representatives of Dangme Rural Bank – Prampram Branch, whose current car park falls within the proposed project area.
Discussions centred on land use arrangements, traffic and accessibility management, relocation concerns for affected occupants and coordination strategies for both construction and operational phases of the market.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with the Prampram Traditional Council expressing strong appreciation for the project’s potential to drive local economic development and pledging continuous collaboration with the Assembly throughout the project’s implementation.
The proposed 24-hour market forms part of broader efforts to stimulate local economies, enhance business activities and improve livelihoods across communities in the Ningo-Prampram District.
