Tema Metropolitan Assembly Elects Kojo Ofori Joseph as Presiding Member with Overwhelming Mandate

Hon. Kojo Ofori Joseph has been elected as the new Presiding Member of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, securing an overwhelming endorsement from Assembly Members and Government Appointees.

At a duly convened meeting of the Assembly, two nominations were filed for the position. Hon. Kojo Ofori Joseph was proposed by Anthony Sam Annom and seconded by Godsway Dzene. Hon. Lasisi Baba Tunde was also nominated, with Albert K. Mensah as proposer and Joseph Amisah as seconder.

In a remarkable show of unity and collegiality, Hon. Lasisi Baba Tunde stepped down in support of Hon. Kojo Ofori Joseph. Nevertheless, in accordance with statutory requirements and Assembly procedures, a formal vote was conducted to validate the candidature.

At the close of balloting by Assembly Members and Government Appointees, Hon. Kojo Ofori Joseph secured 31 out of 32 eligible votes — representing a near-unanimous endorsement — and was duly declared elected Presiding Member.

He was subsequently sworn into office by the Regional Commander, who administered the Oath of Office and the Oath of Allegiance to the Republic of Ghana.

Earlier, the Mayor of Tema, Hon. Ebi Bright, expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing Presiding Member, Hon. Boakye Sobre, for what she described as a cordial and progressive working relationship that strengthened cooperation within the Assembly and advanced the metropolis’ development agenda.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Kojo Ofori Joseph thanked members of the Assembly for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to uphold transparency, inclusiveness, and unity in the discharge of his duties. He assured members of his readiness to work collaboratively with the Mayor, Assembly Members, Government Appointees, and key stakeholders to deepen participatory governance and accelerate development across Tema.

The election ushers in a new chapter in the governance of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, marked by renewed commitment to responsive leadership, collaboration, and collective progress.
