Structure of Local Governance under fourth Republic

Ghana under the fourth republic adopted the local governance system; a decentralized system of governance, to among other things ensure equitable distribution of resources, and provide opportunity for decision making at the local level.

Provided for in Article 240 of the 1992 Constitution, the system seeks to pave ways for effective administration and management of the decentralized local government system in the country''.

For effective and efficient delivery, the system provides hierarchical structure made of Regional Coordinating Council, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly system.
