He thus assured that he will assemble the best team to help address the challenges and reset the country to the path of progress and prosperity.
He affirmed that the results of this election as declared by the Electoral Commissioner that put the National Democratic Congress the winner with him as the leader “just chalked one of the most emphatic victories in the electoral history of the fourth republic. We have therefore been bestowed with a very outstanding mandate by the good people of Ghana.”
“For all its historic undertones, this mandate represents many things for all political actors and those who seek to lead our nation. It shows that the Ghanaian people have little tolerance for bad governance particularly of the sort witnessed in the last eight years, and that they are willing to take decisive action at critical moments when it matters most”.
He opined that this last eight years have witnessed some of the darkest moments of our governance , and the crisis the country had to endure have left a scare in our national psyche which will take some time to erase.
“This mandate also serves as constant reminder of what fate awaits us if we fail to meet the aspirations of our people and govern with arrogance”.
Mr Mahama said there is much to do to salvage the country and reset it; saying it would have to start with reset of the relationship between the citizens and the elected officials.
“We must never forget that the people of Ghana have chosen us to represent their wishes and their best interests.
It is the reason they would implement important government reforms and sometimes initiate severe measures in the next four years to reset our nation and bring it back on track as the black star of Africa.
He reminded all and sundry that the journey ahead is not going to be easy because the outgoing government has plunged the country into abyss. However, they are determined to work together with all and sundry to build the Ghana we want.
“We intend to work together to restore the shuttered confidence in our politics and governance system.”
