The inadequacy of the district’s road network is the main hindrance to the full exploitation of this well-endowed district, whose agricultural potentials in particular are phenomenal. Most of the significant settlements are inaccessible in the rainy season and parts of the Yendi-Zabzugu trunk road as well as the stretch between zabzugu and Tatale need improvements too.
About 20 km of the yendi zabzugu road is being worked on but the feeder roads need rehabilitation too. Only Zabzugu, the district capital, has been connected to the national electricity grid. Work is in progress, however, to connect Tatale and Sabare to the grid, under the Self Help Electrification Project, SHEP. The district does not yet have telephone links although contact with other parts of the country is achieved by radio.
Zabzugu town has a pipe borne water system. All other communities, including Tatale, Nkpali, Sheini and Tadidow are served by a number of bore holes provided by the Church of Christ and the Catholic Mission. There are 56 primary schools in the district along with 10 Junior Secondary Schools, two Senior Secondary Schools and eight day care centres.
While the provision of infrastructure continues to improve year by year, the pupil/teacher ratio and actual enrolment continues to deteriorate. Health services are provided mainly by the six health centres in the district. During outreach programmes, health services are also provided. The nearest hospital is about 48 km away in Yendi and there is the need for the health centre in Zabzugu to be upgraded into a hospital.
