The sod-cutting ceremony, led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Kwasi Amankwa, was attended by a cross-section of local leaders, including Constituency Party Executives, members of the Kumawu Traditional Council, and Assembly Members.
The project, which had previously stalled, is now being championed as a testament to the government’s policy of continuity in governance. Mr. Amankwa emphasised that the current administration is dedicated to completing abandoned and uncompleted projects inherited from past regimes.
“Governance is a continuum,” stated DCE Amankwa during the ceremony. “Our promise is to continue and complete all abandoned projects. Unlike empty promises, we believe in action—finishing what was started and delivering tangible results to the good people of Kumawu.”
He positioned the revitalised project as a core part of the government’s agenda for grassroots development and economic empowerment. The lockable stores are intended to provide secure, hygienic, and structured trading space for local merchants, potentially boosting commerce and livelihoods in the district.
“This project reflects our firm commitment to grassroots development, economic empowerment, and support for local traders,” Amankwa added. He reiterated that the focus of his administration remains unwavering: “development, accountability, and progress for every community.”
The presence of traditional authorities and assembly members at the event was seen as an effort to foster collective ownership and ensure local oversight as the project moves towards completion.
Residents and traders in Kumawu have expressed optimism about the project's potential impact, hoping it will address the challenge of inadequate trading facilities and stimulate local economic activity.
Construction on the stores is expected to proceed swiftly, with the district assembly committing to regular updates on the progress until final handover.
