Hon. Baba Jamal stated that Nima requires more intensive sanitation interventions due to choked drains and the persistent accumulation of garbage. He expressed disappointment over the low turnout for the exercise despite extensive publicity, noting that many residents continue to dispose of waste indiscriminately and fail to clean the frontages of their homes and businesses.

He stressed the need for increased public awareness, stricter enforcement through summons and fines for sanitation offenders, and continuous cleanup activities beyond one-day exercises to tackle the root causes of poor sanitation.

The Municipal Chief Executive described the President's national cleanup initiative as a timely and welcome intervention that has inspired greater public participation in sanitation activities. He cited the cleaning of previously neglected gutters as a positive outcome of the initiative.

The MCE commended the support received from Traditional Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Assembly Members, the Member of Parliament, the Coordinating Director, and staff of the Assembly during the cleanup exercise held on Friday. He emphasized that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility that requires the collective commitment of all stakeholders and residents.

He further explained that the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly already conducts regular monthly sanitation exercises. The recent two-day national cleanup campaign focused on areas around Jubilee House, including 37, Kanda, the Ministry of Finance, and Nima, where additional cleanup activities are planned.

The MCE assessed the ongoing sanitation efforts as satisfactory and expressed confidence that sustained collaboration would lead to lasting improvements in environmental cleanliness across the municipality.
