Bono Regional Minister Vows to Intensify Galamsey Fight

The Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa Esq., has reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to combating the illegal mining menace—commonly known as galamsey—in the Bono Region.

Speaking during a special media engagement at his official residence, the minister emphasized that achieving lasting success in the fight would require a collective approach involving community members, traditional authorities, and all relevant stakeholders.

Seized Equipment on Display

During the session, the minister conducted reporters around the residence to witness equipment seized by the Regional Security Council (RESEC) from 2025 to date. The haul included:

* 11 excavators

* Several generators

* 31 motorbikes

* Multiple tricycles

* Water pumping machines

New Anti-Galamsey Strategy

The minister noted that with the introduction of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operation Secretariat (NAIMOS), his office has provided detailed locations of galamsey activities—including Atronie—to facilitate targeted operations.

Response to Public Concerns

Addressing claims from some members of the public that RESEC had slowed down its operations, the minister dismissed such assertions, insisting that the fight remains a top priority.

"Operations are ongoing, and with NAIMOS, we are strengthening our efforts," he stated.

Protection of Water Bodies

Mr. Akwaboa also announced that Blue Water Guards have been deployed to the region to protect water bodies, with particular focus on the Amoma River in the Berekum West District.

Call for Non-Partisan Approach

The minister called for a non-partisan approach to the galamsey fight, stressing that measures have been put in place to eradicate the menace from the region.
