Shocking Transformation as Assembly takes on Dirt in massive clean up exercise

Some major streets once littered with waste, choked drains and polluted public spaces received a major facelift as the Atwima Mponua District Assembly launched an intensive two-day clean-up exercise aimed at restoring environmental sanitation across the district.

The exercise, which commenced on July 10, 2026, formed part of the nationwide sanitation campaign initiated by the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, to promote environmental cleanliness and improve public health in communities across Ghana.

The campaign mobilised hundreds of residents and stakeholders in Nyinahin and surrounding communities, creating an inspiring display of unity and civic responsibility. Traditional authorities, Assembly Members, heads of departments, security personnel, market women, youth groups, sanitation workers, civil society organisations and community members all joined hands to improve the environment.

Participants swept major streets, cleared market centres, desilted gutters and cleaned public spaces to reduce the risk of flooding and the outbreak of sanitation-related diseases. One of the highlights of the exercise was the desilting of the Timatebrm River, an important water body whose restoration is expected to improve water flow and protect the surrounding environment.

Speaking after the exercise, the District Chief Executive for Atwima Mponua, Hon. Issahak Ibrahim, expressed profound appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the initiative.

"Your dedication and community spirit demonstrate what we can achieve when we work together for the common good. This overwhelming response shows that safeguarding our environment is a shared responsibility," he said.

The DCE stressed that the clean-up exercise should serve as the beginning of a sustained campaign rather than a one-off event.

"Maintaining a clean environment should not be a one-day activity but a continuous civic responsibility. Let us all cultivate the habit of proper waste disposal and environmental stewardship so that Atwima Mponua remains clean, healthy and attractive for generations to come," Hon. Issahak Ibrahim added.

Residents who participated in the exercise described the initiative as timely, noting that cleaner surroundings contribute significantly to improved public health, safer communities and enhanced economic activity.

The Atwima Mponua District Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining environmental sanitation through regular clean-up campaigns, public education and stronger collaboration with community stakeholders, as it works towards building a cleaner, healthier and more resilient district.
