Bono minister cautions newly swor-in DCEs against corruption

The Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has cautioned newly confirmed District Chief Executives (DCEs) of the District Assemblies against corrupt practices as any of such act could result to being sacked by the President H.E John Dramani Mahama.

He advised them to espouse high integrity, ensure good governance and transparency in the discharge of their duties and avoid corrupt practices that hinder progress in the Districts and could bring their names into disrepute.

The Minister said this during the confirmation and swearing-in of District Chief Executives (DCEs) for Dormaa West and Berekum West.

Hon Joseph Addae Akwaboa, in remark described the two DCEs as proactive and determined persons who could work to promote the President’s development agenda and urged the Assemblies to support them for the success of the Districts.

He charged the people led by the traditional authorities to support the DCEs in their quest to realize their dreams of bringing development to the areas.

Both Stephen Azorba Awuni of Dormaa West and Collins Asoma of Berekum West had 100 percent endorsement by their respective Assembly members and were sworn-in by His Lordship Justice Gabriel Mate-Teye, a Superving High Court Judge from Sunyani High Court.

It was full of joy and jubilations for the Assembly members and residents who thronged to the venues could not hide their emotions, saying all what they need were needed development for their respective Districts.

At Nkrankwanta, Dormaa West, the Assembly members voted massively and confirmed the President's nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE), Stephen Azorba Awuni with 100 percent.

The nominee had 14 of 14 of the total votes cast, a figure that represented 100 per cent of the valid votes in an election conducted by the District Electoral Commission Officer, Samuel Nii Lomoko Tackie Konne.

The nominee, Stephen Azorba Awuni, aged 41, holds a Bachelor of Education, (Integrated Science) from University of Education, Winneba and a Master of Education (Science Education) from University of Cape Coast.

Mr. Stephen prior to his appointment served as a Coordinator for Second Cycle Schools for Dormaa West District.

The new DCE in his acceptance speech expressed sincere gratitude to the H.E the President, John Dramani Mahama and, the NDC fraternity for the great opportunity to serve the people of this District as the Chief Executive. He assured the people District that he would be DCE for the whole of Dormaa West District and not to any one political party.

"I shall therefore, operate an open door policy where everyone, no matter your ethnicity, religion, colour or political affiliation will be welcomed to my office. In this regard, I urge you all to join me to put our heads together and shoulders to the wheel and hands on deck to steer the affairs of this district for the improvement of the quality of lives of our people, he said.

As the District Chief Executive, I hope to count immensely on the rich and wide range of counsel and support of not only from Nananom, but also the various stakeholders, the Security Services/Agencies, Heads of Department and Staff as well as Hon. Assembly Members, Traditional Authorities, Opinion Leaders, Religious Leaders, Community Based Organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations, Civil Society Organisations, the Association of Ghana Industries, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, Consultants, Contractors, Transport Operators (GPRTU and PROTOA), Political Parties, the youth and community members, among others.

At Jinijini, Berekum West, the Assembly members respectively voted massively to confirm the President's nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Collins Asoma with 100 percent.

The nominee had 27 of 27 of the total votes cast, a figure that represented 100 per cent of the valid votes in an election conducted by the District Electoral Commission

Mr. Collins Asoma, aged 39, holds a Bachelor of Education degree and a Master of Philosophy (Education) from University of Education, Winneba.

Prior to his appointment he was a Lecturer at Berekum College of Education.

On his confirmation, he expressed gratitude for his massive endorsement and said it was an indication that the people were ready to reset the District by hard work to change their fortunes.

He assured the people of working diligently with all stakeholders in the District to foster sustainable growth and progress in the District.

He added that his focus will be improving infrastructure, Economic Growth and job creation, Education and Youth Empowerment, Good Governance and Transparency.
