Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, said the move bypasses oversight and due process.

Speaking at a press conference in Parliament, he insisted such deployments require advance scrutiny of protocols, costs, duration, and troop numbers.

He questioned the necessity of sending troops to Benin after a coup had already been foiled, and compared it to past deployments like Guinea-Bissau, where a coup occurred despite regional forces.

Rev. Ntim Fordjour also criticized recent shows of force by security agencies in Accra as misplaced, given domestic conflicts in Bawku and illegal mining threats.

According to him, the show of force is best directed at areas with a security crisis where even the military seems to be running for their lives.

He noted Ghana’s peace ranking has fallen to 61st globally because of too many flash spots in the country.

Highlighting a leadership vacuum at the Defence Ministry, which lacks a substantive minister, he called for urgent explanations from relevant ministers and greater transparency in the use of public funds for international deployments.
