Speaking on the sidelines of the unannounced sanitation visit to the selected Assemblies in Accra, she said the Ministry had begun a coordinated exercise to regulate outdoor advertising structures, starting with the Greater Accra Region.
Madam Sowah, who also chairs the Technical Committee on the Proper Siting of Billboards within regional capitals, said several billboards had already been removed, with more marked for demolition in collaboration with the various municipal assemblies.
She said billboards and signages were classified as temporary structures and could be removed by assemblies, particularly when they obstructed pedestrian movement, road medians, or motorists’ visibility.
The Deputy Minister said the ongoing exercise was aimed at improving road safety, restoring clear sightlines, and supporting the broader agenda to keep cities clean and well-lit.
Madam Sowah said the technical committee would continue the removal exercise, including scheduled operations over the weekend, stressing that authorities would not hesitate to act where signages violated siting regulations.
She called on the public and stakeholders to cooperate with the exercise, noting that proper urban planning was essential to making Accra and other regional capitals safer and more accessible.
Madam Sowah expressed gratitude to the Minister for MLGCRA for the opportunity to lead the technical committee and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enforcing standards that enhanced orderly development and public safety across the country.
