Obuasi East MCE Commissions Akaporiso Community Centre, Pledges to Complete Legacy Projects

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi East, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu, has commissioned the newly completed Akaporiso Community Centre, reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to completing viable development projects inherited from previous administrations.

The project, which was initiated under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, was completed under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration as part of efforts to deliver projects that directly benefit residents of the municipality.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Adzowu stressed that development must not be viewed through a political lens, insisting that public projects are meant to serve the people regardless of the administration that initiated them.

“Project development is for the people, not for a political party,” he said.

The MCE explained that the Assembly would continue to complete all viable legacy projects left unfinished, describing such projects as important investments intended to improve the lives of residents.

He disclosed that 10 percent of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) had been earmarked specifically for the completion of legacy projects across the municipality.

Revenue-Sharing Arrangement

Hon. Adzowu also announced a revenue-sharing arrangement for the newly commissioned facility.

According to him, 30 percent of revenue generated from the rental of the centre will accrue to the Assembly, while 70 percent will remain with the community to support the maintenance and upkeep of the facility.

To ensure proper management and maintenance, he said a committee had been established to inspect and monitor the facility every three months.

The MCE noted that the new community centre would provide residents with a modern venue for funerals, weddings, meetings and other social activities, thereby reducing the practice of blocking roads to organise such events.

He further disclosed that the Assembly was also pursuing the completion of another major legacy project—the new Administration Block for the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly.

Modern Facility

The contractor, Mr. Williams Ezor, Chief Executive Officer of In Him Is Life Limited, said the facility had a seating capacity of approximately 500 people.

He explained that the centre also included a 10-seater water closet facility, two office rooms and a mechanised borehole to provide a reliable water supply.

Traditional Authorities Commend Project

The Dompoase Kontihene, Nana Bosompem Kitikyi Apenteng II, commended both the previous NPP administration, which initiated the project, and the current NDC administration for ensuring its completion.

He urged residents to support the MCE and pray for his success, noting that several other development projects were ongoing in the area.

Among the projects he mentioned were the construction of a science laboratory, perimeter wall, and boys’ and girls’ dormitories at Christ the King College (CKC).

Nana Apenteng also appealed to the Assembly to construct a parking lot to serve patrons of the facility and improve the access road linking the main road to the community centre.

Residents expressed optimism that the new Akaporiso Community Centre would become an important venue for social gatherings and community development activities while improving convenience and reducing disruptions caused by roadside events.
