Chief Justice commissions magistrate court complex at Nsawkaw

The state of the art modern facility magistrate court complex constructed by the Government at Nsawkaw in the Tain District of Bono Region to bring access to justice closer to the people was commissioned by the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship the Chief justice Gertrude Araba Esaba Sackey Torkonoo.

The people of Tain since the District was carved out from Wenchi Municipality in 2004 relied on the Wenchi High Court for resolution of their legal issues and seeking of justice.

They expend significant financial outlays and time in the pursuit of Justice due to the unavailability of a court in the district.

The Chief justice, in her speech read on her behalf by His Lordship Justice Gabriel Nene Kwao Mate-Teye, Justice of the Sunyani High Court said the establishment of the District Court at Nsawkaw, in the Tain District represents a significant step forward the mission of ensuring that every individual, regardless of their location or circumstances, has access to a fair and just legal System She glorified that the courthouse was more than justa building but a symbol of hope for the people of Nsawkaw, a promise that justice will no longer be out of reach, but will be accessible in the whole community.

She added that it was also a symbol of the nation’s commitment to the people of Nsawkaw, a promise of justice and recognition of their inherent rights and dignity. “It is a fulfillment of commitment to bring justice closer to the doorsteps, ensuring that every individualism given access to justice, fairness and equity under the law”, she stated.

She implores everyone who works in the building to live up to the values that drive the judicial service of Ghana and to recognize the importance of their jobs.

She also inferred that it was the grave responsibility of every person who enters the courtroom whether Magistrate, lawyer, clerk or any other role to defend the values of justice, equity and integrity. “We must never lose sight of the significant influence that what we do can have on the lives of people who come to us for justice”, she said.

The Chief re-iterated that the value of impartiality, transparency and equality must inform every choice. “In the end, this courthouse’s success will rely not just on its architectural attributes but also on the commitment and moral character of individuals who work there.

Thus let us commit to upholding the greatest levels of professionalism and moral behavior in all that we do” she said.

Madam Justina Owusu Banahene, Bono Regional Minister in her speech said the construction of the edifice underscores Government resolve and dedication to supporting the Judiciary and facility efficient administration of Justice in the Nsawkaw community and its environs and beyond.

She called on the people to reaffirm their collective commitment to the principles of fairness, equity and integrity that form the foundation of the legal system.

The Regional Minister calls on the staff of the Judicial Service to uphold the culture of maintenance to ensure that the facility always remains strong and beautiful to serve not only the present generation but the generation to come. She thanked the NPP Government led by H.E Nana Addo DankwaAkuffo-Addo for the unprecedented development projects implemented across the country.

The Regional Minister used the opportunity to call for peace as Ghanaians prepare for 2024 general elections come December 7th to elect our leaders who will steer the affairs of the country for the next four years. “Let us try as much as possible to avoid inflammatory talk in our engagements and discussions on subject matter of politics and as well, strive to educate others” she emphasized.

Dr. Lucy Acheampong, the District Chief executive (DCE) for Tain in her welcome address noted that the commissioning of the Tain District Court was a dream come true since the people have been yearning for a court to aid the police solve legal and administrative Justice. “I must say we have waited so long for the completion of this edifice and it is a dream come true, for this project to see the light of completion under my administration”, Dr. Lucy Said.

The DCE stated that the Court has all the facilities and the construction of a residential bungalow for the magistrate has been completed. “I can assure you that the people of Tain will make the stay of the magistrate here a wonderful one”, she assured.

She added that the people believe, under the outstanding leadership of her ladyship, the chief Justice, they will have an effective and impartial Justice System in Tain to serve the interest of the people.
