The subcommittees, which include finance and administration; policy and resolutions; economic development; environment; sanitation; tourism international relations and public relations, and newly added legal reforms and welfare among others, are also expected to among other things identify opportunities and actionable programmes deemed relevant to the Association for implementation.

Speaking at a short but colourful swearing ceremony at the Ange-Hill Hotel in Accra, President of the Association, Nana Agyemang Prempeh applauded the appointees who are expected to serve on the various subcommittees of the Association for a two-year period.

He said the appointees were carefully selected based on their pedigree, technical knowhow and abilities, adding that he had no doubts that these persons would work diligently to contribute to the consolidation of the aims and objectives of the association.

He said: “members of these committees were carefully selected based on their pedigree as honorable members of the Association. I do not doubt that you would carry out the assignment and submit its reports.”

Touching on the newly formed legal reforms and welfare subcommittee, Nana Agyemang Prempeh further noted that, the new committee was created to oversee the Association’s constitutional amendments, and ensure the general welfare of members.

He noted that there were a lot of bottlenecks in the Association’s constitution that needed to be streamlined, stressing that the subcommittee will also pay a critical look at the issue of welfare for its members.

He therefore seized the opportunity to call on all appointees to support the National Executive Council (NEC) to achieve the aims and objectives of the association.

On his part, a legal practitioner and Presiding Member for Kwabre East, Lawyer George Oppong, lauded the President for introducing the new legal reforms and welfare subcommittee to address challenges in the group’s constitution.

As a legal practitioner, Mr Oppong opined that he had personally identified some issues pertaining to its constitution which needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency.

One major issue he highlighted was the term of office for the National Executive Council which he said must be extended to a term of four years to be conterminous with provisions of the 1992 constitution.

He noted that the committee will move swiftly to ensure that recommendations are made and submitted to the Local Government Ministry and Parliament for review and possible approval.
