Located within Ghana’s moist semi-deciduous South-East Ecological Zone, the municipality boasts several vegetation reserves at KNUST, St. Louis Senior High, Anwomaso, Boadi, Appiadu, and other communities. These areas are rich in tree species such as mahogany, teak, ceiba, and eucalyptus, serving both as tourist attractions and vital resources for research, wildlife preservation, and leisure.
The area is also geologically unique, lying on Middle Precambrian Rocks with an undulating landscape between 230 and 300 meters above sea level. Water bodies like the Subin, Wiwi, Owabi, and Aboabo rivers run through the municipality but are increasingly under threat.
Local authorities have expressed concern that housing development and improper waste disposal are contributing to the pollution and decline of these water bodies, reducing their ability to support aquatic life.
Environmentalists are urging stakeholders to prioritize conservation efforts to safeguard Oforikrom’s ecological heritage.
