The strike, by CLOGSAG which commenced on Thursday, February 20, was because of the National Executive Council's call to protest the appointment of Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of Birth and Death Registry.

The Association argued that Mr. Botchway's appointment was politically motivated and exposed and would undermine the integrity of their work in which members stayed at home during the period.

CLOGSAG members in Keta Municipality, have resumed their normal activities for the progress of the Assembly.

Mr. Samuel Glago, the Volta Regional Organiser for CLOGSAG, in an interview said that the decision to resume work follows a series of negotiations between CLOGSAG leaders and government officials.

"The National Executives Council (NEC) of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, held an emergency meeting on Friday, March 28, and decided that we suspend the ongoing strike action to allow all staff of Civil Service and Local Government Service to go back to work," he said.

He explained that the strike had significant implications for local government services in the country with many offices and departments grinding to a halt and resumption of work is expected to bring relief to residents who rely on the services of CLOGSAG.

He said that the leadership of the association had been engaging with government officials to resolve the impasse and after several weeks of negotiations, a decision was reached, paving the way for CLOGSAG members to return to work.

"The suspension of the strike is to pave the way for the parties to continue the engagement towards closure of the impasse, and in this regard, we entreat all our staff to resume work on Wednesday, April 2."

Mr. Glago said that CLOGSAG's decision to resume work was seen as a positive step towards resolving the issues that led to the strike while the leadership also pledged to continue engaging with government officials to address the concerns.

The resumption of work by CLOGSAG members is expected to restore normalcy to local government services in Keta and offices which include Social Welfare Department, Records, Statistical Department Unit, Client Service Unit, Environmental and Sanitation Unit among others.

Some residents welcomed the decision by CLOGSAG members to resume work and appealed to the government to address the challenges for continue service by the association to alleviate the numerous plights suffered during the strike period.

They said that the resumption of work by CLOGSAG members in Keta is a significant development that marked the end of several weeks of industrial action and services returning to normal would improve quality delivery of local government services.

Some CLOGSAG members at Keta expressed satisfaction about the decision of their leaders to resume work and expected that the government would reach agreements during the negotiations.
