The funds are to help in the education, medical and income generation activities of the beneficiary persons.

Among the items were deep freezers, sewing machines, wheelchairs, ‘Fufu’ pounding machines, piglets, electric machines and hair dryers.

The rest were knitting machines, rollers and undisclosed cash of various amounts.

Mrs Linda Opoku Addai, Municipal Director of the Department of Social Welfare, speaking at the ceremony, said the government was committed to improving the living conditions of people with disabilities.

She said the donation was part of efforts to address some of their challenges and to help put them in a situation where they could work and generate incomes to take care of themselves and their families.

Mrs Addai said people with disabilities had the capacity to turn their situations around if they received the needed support, and advised the beneficiaries to ensure that the items were used in their business operations to help improve their economic situations.

She urged family members of the beneficiaries to support them to engage in meaningful enterprises that would bring income and support them economically to be independent.

Mr. Richmond Agyenim Boateng, the Municipal Chief Executive, in an address, said the assembly would strengthen its monitoring mechanisms to ensure that the support was used according to the purpose they were given.

Mr. John Nicholas, President of the Municipal Federation of persons with disabilities, thanked the assembly for the support and urged his colleagues to put the items to good use for their own benefit.
