Mayor urges public to embrace WOMBA Accra street art festival

The Mayor of Accra, Mr. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has issued a strong call to action, encouraging the public to actively participate in the upcoming WOMBA Accra Street Art Festival.

Scheduled to take place from August 19th to 24th, the festival is highlighted as a crucial platform for fostering Ga culture, empowering the youth, instilling community pride, and enhancing the overall vibrancy of Accra.

During the launch of the festival's third edition at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) City Hall, the Mayor expressed his full backing for the initiative.

He emphasized its potential to steer young people away from detrimental influences, such as drug abuse, and towards constructive cultural and social engagement.

The core philosophy of WOMBA, as explained by Festival Coordinator Mr. Ntiamoah Alex, is deeply rooted in pride, identity, and empowerment –essential elements for shaping a brighter future for the Ga youth.

The week-long program is packed with diverse activities:

Wednesday, August 20th: A community clean-up exercise.

Thursday, August 21st: A captivating "Night of Light."

Friday evening: High Street will be closed for a vibrant storytelling session at Bannerman Road in Akoto Lante, complemented by music and cultural displays.

Weekend: A dynamic mix of street exhibitions, a lively carnival, and essential health activities, including blood donation and health screenings, anticipated to benefit approximately 4,000 participants.

Nuumo Ayitey Komla III, a traditional leader, conveyed his gratitude for the festival's continuation, anticipating an exceptional event, especially with the Mayor's enthusiastic support.
