Women’s Health to Wealth Hands Over Five WASH Facilities to Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly

Women’s Health to Wealth, a non-governmental organisation committed to promoting sanitation, health and community development has officially handed over five institutional latrines to the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly to improve hygiene and sanitation across beneficiary schools in the District.

The handover ceremony was held at St. Peter’s Basic School at Wioso and attracted traditional authorities, education officials and community leaders.

Present at the event were Chief of Wioso, Nana Assaw Ababio I, Hon. Abubakar Sedik, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, the District Coordinating Director (DCD), Mr. Paul Atsu Agebezudor, the District Director of Education, Mr. Justin Kwesi Gbotor, Executive Director and Staff of WHW, some staff of the District Assembly and other dignitaries.

In a speech, Nana Abena Akuamoah Boateng, the Executive Director of Women’s Health to Wealth said the project forms part of the organisation’s broader mission to improve access to decent sanitation facilities, particularly in schools and public institutions. According to the Executive Director, the lack of proper toilet facilities continues to pose serious health risks and affects school attendance, especially among young girls.

She noted that the five institutional latrines were constructed to provide safe, dignified and hygienic sanitation for pupils and teachers, adding that good sanitation is key to preventing waterborne diseases and promoting overall public health. She further appealed to the District Assembly and beneficiary schools to ensure regular maintenance of the facilities to guarantee their sustainability.

Receiving the facilities, Hon. Abubakar Sedik expressed profound gratitude to Women’s Health to Wealth for the intervention, describing it as a major contribution to the District’s sanitation and education agenda. He assured the organisation of the Assembly’s commitment to safeguarding and properly maintaining the facilities.

The District Director of Education, Mr. Justin Kwesi Gbotor, emphasised that improved sanitation infrastructure in schools enhances teaching and learning outcomes by creating a conducive environment for both pupils and staff.

On his part, Nana Assaw Ababio I commended the NGO for its continuous support to community development and urged the beneficiaries to take full ownership of the facilities and use them responsibly.

The project is expected to significantly improve sanitation standards in the beneficiary schools, Wioso St. Peter’s JHS, Mankranso DA JHS "A", Mpasaso St. Peter’s JHS and Kunsu Camp JHS while supporting the Assembly’s efforts to promote public health and quality education.
